In Chieb district, a remote area along the border of Laos in Cambodia, only 2 percent of families have a latrine. ADRA is the only organization in this district providing assistance in clean water and sanitation. Clean water is being brought to the area through the well-building project that was in ADRA’s 2011 gift catalog. ADRA Cambodia’s standard latrine, utilizing all concrete parts, has proven over the past 10 years to be cost-effective and durable. Families will contribute 35 percent of the cost of their latrine, thus ensuring ownership and a desire to keep the latrine well maintained.
