Equip a Student

A love of learning is life-changing. It can turn dreams into reality and end poverty for entire families. But disadvantage or disaster robs children of the basics they need to love school, or even get there in the first place. Your gift can provide a student with a backpack full of essentials that will inspire and encourage them toward a life-changing love of learning.
Clear

Love Honorat has a name that suits her well. The five-year-old girl is brimming with love for everything around her: her family, her teacher, and especially her school. She loves to read and write; she loves to color and draw; she loves to run around the school grounds with the other children. Love is also deaf.

Hurricane Dorian, a monster storm that destroyed the infrastructure of her home island of Grand Bahama, flooded thousands of houses, and delayed school for more than a month.

As a deaf child, Love felt the impacts more than many.

When schools on the island finally reopened, students were ill-equipped to start learning again. Hurricane Dorian had robbed them of their school supplies and their joy. There was no excitement to come back to school because there were no new pencils or erasers; they had no backpacks.

But thanks to people like you, all that has changed for the students of Grand Bahama. More than 7,000 students were given new backpacks filled with school supplies. Love is one of those students.

It is hard to imagine a child happier than Love was the day she opened her pink bag and pulled out the brand-new supplies, excitedly signing to her teacher as she beamed with each new discovery— markers, glue sticks, erasers, pencils, and so much more.

  • A brand-new backpack
  • New school supplies including pencils, paper, erasers and much more
  • A reason to smile again
  • The tools they need to love learning again
